Three to Nine Goddess
Goddess Mahakali, Mahalaxmi and Mahasarswati have their pedestals in the power-triangle situated at Varanasi. The idol of Mahalaxmi, which is situated at Laxmi-Kund (name of a pool of water), is also accompanied by the idols of goddess Mahakali and goddess Mahasaraswati. The ancient idol of goddess ‘Vageeshwari’ is situated under the temple and in a cave.
Along with these three ‘Shakti-Peeth’, the existence of three ‘Kunds’ have also been mentioned in the scriptures but only two of these three ‘Kunds’ exist today. They are ‘Durga-Kund’ and ‘Laxmi-Kund’.
A part from these three ‘Shakti-Peetha (pedestal of power) There is also an abode of ‘Nav-durga’ (nine Durgas) at Varanasi. The name of this Navdurge are ‘Shailputri’, ‘Brahmcharini’, `Chandraghanta’, ‘Kusmanda’, ‘Skand mata’, Katyayani’, ‘Kal-Ratri’, ‘MahaGauri’ and ‘Siddhi-datri’.
Mahagauri the presiding deity of Kashi and who is also known as ‘Annapurna’ is situated in the heart of Varanasi.

lifetime savings
Nominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Swachh Bharat Mission, author Manu Sharma on Sunday donated his lifetime savings of Rs 20 lakh for the renovation of a 'ghat' here to "carry forward" the PM's cleanliness campaign.
Author of 'Krishna Ki Atmkatha', Sharma was among nine personalities named by Modi while wielding a spade at Assi ghat here during his two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency?early this month.
"Being an author, I have saved Rs 20 lakh from my royalties, awards and other prizes. I have now decided to donate this hard earned Rs 20 lakh?for the renovation of one ghat in Varanasi which is in bad shape, to take forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat campaign here," he said at a press conference.
"I feel privileged that PM Modi nominated me for this Clean India campaign. This is a revolutionary step of Modi and support from each and every individual is needed."
He said, "Cleaning is a continuous process and as the flow of Ganga continues, the same way this Swachh Bharat mission will progress".
UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and cricketers Suresh Raina and Mohammad Kaif were among those nominated.
He said there are nearly 84 ghats in Varanasi and nearly half a dozen among them are not even cemented.
"I ?take the responsibility of atleast one ghat to make it fully cemented (pakka). The same way people themselves must come forward to clean the ghats and take forward this Swachh Bharat campaign all across the country," he said.
Sharma today?nominated nine prominent citizens of the city to take forward the cleanliness drive. These include
- noted classical singer Pandit Rajan Sajan,
- Dainik Jagran's Virendra Kumar,
- Mahant of Sankat Mochan temple Vishwambhar Nath Mishra and
- folk singer Malini Awasthi.

Creation of Mars Planet
Once when Lord Shiva was engrossed in deep meditation (Sansrit: samādhi) upon his abode, Mount Kailash, three drops of perspiration originated from his forehead and fell down on the earth. From those drops manifested a very beautiful infant, who was of reddish complexion and who had four arms.
The child was handed over to the earth goddess, Bhumi for upbringing by Lord Shiva. The child was named Bhaumaas he was nurtured and brought up by 'Bhumi' (earth).
When Bhauma grew up, he went to Kashi and did a tremendous penance to please lord Shiva. Lord Shiva blessed him by granting him 'Mangala loka' (the Abode of Mangala), which was superior even to the 'Shukra loka' (the Abode of the god of Venus - Shukra). The same Bhauma is established in the solar system by the name of Mangala (planet Mars).
